What is EXIF

The EXchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) is a standard for storing interchange information (metadata) in image files. Besides the image itself, modern digital cameras can capture much optional information about the photo – the date and time it was taken and the camera settings such as diaphragm and exposure interval, flash mode, resolution, quality, photo position, etc. This information is interesting in itself and can be useful to both professional and amateur photographers.

  • How SnapTouch uses EXIF

    View EXIF

While viewing a photo, you can see all useful interchange information in a table. [howto]

    Smart Photo Import

When importing a photo from a digital camera to a computer, SnapTouch uses several EXIF fields. SnapTouch can use the date to set rules for putting photos into files according to when they were taken. Digital cameras mark the vertical and horizontal position of the photo in EXIF. SnapTouch allows you to put the photo into the proper position automatically without degrading the quality. [howto]

    Smart Digital Photo Files Renaming

You can also use the photo date and time to rename existing photos. [howto]

    Digital Photo Commenting

With SnapTouch you can add a comment to the photo. Comments are always kept in the photo itself as well as in the photo file. [howto]

    Stamp the Photo with Date/Comment

SnapTouch gives you the opportunity to stamp the date and time the photo was taken and/or add comments from EXIF. All the information is put on the photo where it's easy to see. Stamping can be very useful even before the photos are printed. [howto]

    Full-Screen View

In full-screen mode SnapTouch displays actual information about the photo: date, time, comments and basic camera settings. All the data is layered on top of the photo – not in the file – thus not spoiling the photo itself. [howto]

    Digital Photo File Decreasing

If you need to decrease the size of the photo by deleting all the additional EXIF information, SnapTouch can do this too. Note however that the deleted data cannot be restored! [howto]

EXIF is very useful and interesting, and you can easily utilize it with the help of SnapTouch.
